Elite Runner Qualifications

To be considered for Elite Status, athletes must have met the applicable qualifying time, for the event you plan to enter, within the past 12 months:

Masters Men
Masters Women
Marathon

Having met the qualifying time does not automatically qualify athletes for elite status. Athletes or designated agents/coaches must apply in accordance with the instructions provided in the “To Apply for Elite Runner Status” below. There are a limited number of openings within each elite class. Applications will be reviewed and athlete and/or agent will be notified of approval or disapproval.

There will be no duplication of awards, except that the first place overall and masters male and female will be paid an additional $1,000 should they break the existing event records. Course records are as follows:

Overall Men -2:17:55 (Jacob Chamar, 2007)
Overall Women – 2:42:44 (Elena Orlova, 2009)
Masters Men – 2:29:24 (Dr. David O’Keeffe, 2001)
Masters Women – 2:57:32 (Leslie J. Carson, 2004)

The top three males and females in each of the age groups will receive awards.

To Apply for Elite Status

If the athlete has met the qualifying times shown above, please submit your request to eliterunners@buffalomarathon.com.

Attach a copy of a complete Running Bio for the past three years, minimum, to current date. For each race, state event, where event was held, date of event, finish time and overall or masters finish place.

Include in the Bio, or in separate form, the following as well as any additional information that may help in the review process:

Agent/coach’s (if applicable) name, title/agency, email address, mailing address, phone number

Athlete’s name, email address, mailing address, phone number, citizenship, sex, age, date of birth

Notification of Decision

Agent/coach or athlete, as applicable, will be notified my email that application has been either approved or disapproved. Information regarding hotel reservations will be included. If approved, a Complimentary Entry Form will be mailed to address shown on initial application; verification of address will be requested.
