Jennifer Giebner (Donato)

"Every child deserves a champion; an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connections and insists they become the best they can possibly be" -Rita Pierson

That is how I hope to be viewed by the students that I teach. My first love and passion begins in my classroom.  I want the students that I teach to recognize that I believe in them and their abilities, and I want them to believe in themselves.  This understanding will hopefully lead them to be successful.  I hope that they can see through examples that I set, that I also want to be the best that I can possibly be in life.  No matter what our life goals are, we are all working toward our highest potential as individuals.

My name is Jennifer Giebner (Donato); I grew up in Dunkirk, NY and currently reside in Fredonia, NY. My family also still lives in that area.  Dunkirk/Fredonia is my absolute favorite place to be in the world, I do love my home town!  I love to travel, but for me, there is nothing quite like a Lake Erie sunset on a warm summers evening!  During the summer my daily runs include passing by Lake Erie, and many of my nights after a workout are spent enjoying the sun setting over the beautiful water.

I have several things that I love to do in life but being a runner, teacher, and aunt are my most favorite titles!  I am a teacher at the Pine Valley Central School District, I teach sixth grade math and science. Being a role model for my students is one of the most important parts of my job.  It is important for me to have a connection with my students, and to help them become successful individuals in all areas of their lives. Since running is one of my life’s passions, I try to incorporate that into my teaching curriculum as much as possible. In the classroom I try to get the students motivated, and to focus on goals that they have set for themselves. I also instill how important it is to be the best that they can be, at whatever it is they chose to do. I want them to find a determination within themselves to work hard and to never give up.  My desire for all students is to have them work to the best of their ability at all they do.

Running brings such joy to my life and is one of my very favorite things to do. I set a goal for myself when I was going through a down period of my life. The goal was to run and complete the Abbott World Major Marathon series.  I wanted to prove to myself that if I put my mind to it, and worked hard, that I could make this dream a reality. These marathons can only be entered by running a qualifying race in a time for your age group that allows you to enter and participate. My best marathon time to date is 3:21:12 and my best half marathon to date is 1:33:44.  These times officially started my career and drive for earning qualifying times into these world marathons. The six world marathons include: Boston, New York City, Chicago, Berlin, Tokyo, and London.

To date, I have run 5 out of the 6 World Marathons, there is only one left to complete. I will be running the last World Marathon on April 23rd, 2017 in London. This marathon I will be running for a part of a great charity called Action on Pre-Eclampsia.  This will be the third charity that I have run to raise money for and to help a great cause. It is important for me to help others in a way that I am capable of doing so.  I would hope that if I were to need some type of help in the future, that there would be a person out there advocating for me, if I couldn’t do so for myself.

Upon completion of the London Marathon, there is a special ceremony that I will take part in that will involve earning my six star medals and becoming a USA Running Ambassador.  Another title that I will be very proud of and add to my list of “favorite titles” collection! This title and award has been given to less than 1,000 people in the entire world!  To me, this is such a super special honor and privilege!  But most importantly, the students that I have taught over the years will see me fulfilling my goals and hopefully, giving them encouragement to pursue their goals and dreams no matter what their age.

More about me.... I love life, I love my family, and I love my job!  I try to be positive and promote positivity in all aspects of my life.  Life is short and it passes us all by very quickly, I try to remember that every single day. I also try to enjoy spending time with the people I love and doing the things that make me most happy in life......you just never know when you won't be capable of doing those things any longer!
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader." President John Quincy Adams

I hope that I am an inspiration to my students. I want to give them the desire to do exactly what that quote says: dream more, learn more, and become more.  If I have a hand in changing a student’s life for the better, then I know I am doing my job!  To me, that means more than anything.

"When you teach what you love and share what you know, you open eyes minds, hearts, and souls to unexplored worlds." -Author Unknown

You just never know in which capacity you will be able to reach a student and change their lives.  That is the true gift of being a teacher! And that is what I love most about my job!
