Rules for Overall Awards and Prize Money For 2018

 

  • All registered athletes are eligible.

  • Awards, prize money and course records are determined solely on gun time.

  • We reserve the right to randomly drug test the winners. Testing positive for PED’s will result in disqualification and a life time ban.

  • There will be no duplication of awards.

  • Should the first place winner of any category (Overall male, Overall female, Masters male, Masters female) break the existing course record in the full/half marathon, he/she be paid the amount listed below for the qualifying race. A bonus paid in the event the record is bettered by more then 6o seconds.

  • ONLY the first place winner is available for course record awards.

  • If a master runner breaks the open event record they will be eligible for the open record ONLY.

  • All money winners must submit a completed W9 prior to receiving any prize money.

Elite Runner Qualifications

To be considered for Elite Status, athletes must meet the applicable qualifying time, for the applicable event, within the past 12 months.  See qualifying times below.

Having met the qualifying time does not automatically qualify athlete for elite status. Athlete or designated agent/coach must apply in accordance with the instructions provided in the “To Apply for Elite Runner Status” section below. There are a limited number of openings within each elite class. Applications will be reviewed and athlete and/or agent will be notified of decision.

Elites eligibility qualifies for:

  • Free Room if registered by 5/1 and rooms are available. (may be shared with other elite runners)

  • Free entry if registered by 5/15.

  • Free entry to the pasta dinner.

  • Note: The Buffalo Marathon does not pay for travel to and from Buffalo.

To Apply for Elite Status

If the athlete has met the qualifying times shown above, please submit a request to eliterunners@buffalomarathon.com to apply for Elite Status.

 

NO ATHLETE WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR ELITE STATUS WITHOUT A COMPLETE RUNNING BIO AS DESCRIBED HEREIN.

Attach a copy of a Complete Running Bio for the past three years, minimum, to current date. For each race, state event, where event was held, date of event, finish time and overall or masters finish place.

Include within the Bio, or in separate form, the following as well as any additional information that may help in the review process:

Athlete’s name, email address, mailing address, phone number, citizenship, sex, age, date of birth.

 

Notification of Decision

Athlete, agent or coach, as applicable, will be notified my email that request for entry in elite field has been either approved or disapproved. Information regarding hotel reservations will be included. Each approved athlete will receive a unique elite entry code. Athlete will then be instructed to register online using their unique code.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE BUFFALO MARATHON DOES NOT PROVIDE INVITATION LETTERS.  EACH ATHLETE IS REQUIRED TO SUBMIT A REQUEST IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROCEDURES DESCRIBED HEREIN.
